About Us

Good paving deserves
clear writing.

What Paul Harris Wrote is a publication for people who want to understand the ground beneath their feet—and make more thoughtful decisions about it.

The finish is only
half the story.

We’re interested in the part you see.
And the parts you don’t.

Why this publication exists

Turning a big project into better questions.

Paving sits at the intersection of design and practical construction. A surface can look right in a photograph and still be wrong for the way it will be used. Equally, a technically sound installation deserves a finish that feels at home in its surroundings.

This publication brings those two sides together. We write about materials and appearance, but also water, ground conditions, edges, joints and ongoing care. The aim is to help readers understand a specification—not simply admire a sample.

Whether you’re a homeowner planning a change or a curious reader comparing approaches, you’ll find plain-English explanations that leave room for context.

Our editorial footing

Useful beats flashy.

Three principles guide what we cover and how we explain it.

01

Explain the trade-off

Price, appearance, installation and maintenance all matter. A useful comparison explains what you gain and what you take on.

02

Respect the site

Soil, climate, loading and local requirements can change the answer. We won’t present a general guide as a design for your property.

03

Keep it understandable

Technical terms have their place. Where they help, we explain them; where they get in the way, we choose simpler words.

A useful distinction

Reading is a start.
Site-specific advice comes next.

Our articles provide general information. They don’t replace an on-site assessment, a drainage design or advice from a qualified local professional. Check applicable planning rules, product instructions and installation requirements before work begins.

We don’t provide paving quotations or book installation work. We do welcome questions that could make the publication more useful.
